Meet Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg in 1756. He began composing as a child. His works include symphonies, concertos, and operas.
Composers make decisions about melody, rhythm, and the sounds of instruments or voices. A musical idea may return or change as a piece continues. Listen for a familiar idea, then notice whether its sound or mood changes. Support your description with a detail you heard.

A simple way to teach it
- Load the grade band that matches your class. Read the passage and ask students to explain what a composer does.
- Choose a short recording by Mozart. Let students listen once before asking them to respond.
- On a second listen, ask students to raise a finger when they recognize a returning idea. Invite them to describe it without requiring formal analysis terms.
Take it a little further
Students can invent a short spoken or clapped pattern, perform a different pattern, and bring the first one back. Use their example to discuss repetition and contrast.
